Connection Church

What:  Open Door Ministry is an outreach to people in need in our community.  Although ODM is a ministry of Connection Church, it also involves volunteers from throughout our community including other churches, schools, businesses, community organizations and individuals who have a heart for helping those in need in very practical ways.  Open Door Ministry provides nutritious food, warm clothing and job information to families in 20 different municipalities surrounding Canton.  In addition, Open Door Ministry Graduate School provides individual help with job skills and assistance in finding employment.  In 2007, food was provided to 30,000 people.  In 2008, needs have risen by almost 40% and we are on target for providing over ¾ million pounds of food and references to approximately 5000 jobs along with literally tons of clothing this year. 

When:  Open Door Ministry has its food distribution on Thursday evenings.  Each guest must call 734-397-1777 Ext. 201 to complete an application and register before assistance can be provided.  Opportunities to volunteer at Open Door Ministry are Wednesdays from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm, and also on Thursdays from 4:00 pm until 9:30 pm. Volunteers do not have to call before they arrive, and can stay as long as their schedules permit.  We have volunteer opportunities doing various tasks that range from loading food shelves to praying with our guests.  Volunteers need only to have a heart for serving God by helping people in need.

Where:  Open Door Ministry is located at 4301 S. Lilley Road in Canton.  We are ½ block south of Michigan Ave. on Lilley.  Please do not leave donations at this address since it is a leased facility.  All donations should be placed in the designated location at Connection Church.

Why:    Jesus said, “What we have done for the ‘least of these’ we have done for Him.”  God’s Word is very clear and direct in its instructions regarding help to the needy.  Our heart is to serve God by serving people in need.  The task is large, the needs plenty, but we serve a God who is more than able to meet all of those needs.  He demonstrates His power and love for the needy each week, and at Open Door Ministry we experience God every day.  If you want to be a part of that experience, please join us.
